Choosing where your child will live is one of the biggest decisions of this journey. Is Karabük a safe city? Is the dormitory close to campus? Is it trustworthy? Are meals, laundry and internet taken care of?
Karabük is a small, safe city, close to many major cities in Turkey. When choosing a dormitory, the most important thing to check is whether it is officially licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports. Private dormitories serving higher-education students are licensed and inspected by this ministry under the Regulation on Private Higher-Education Accommodation Services. AltınKalem is a licensed private dormitory under that regulation.
Karabük hosts 10,000+ international students from 90+ countries — and we are right across the campus gate.
The main campus of Karabük University is 250 metres away — approximately a 4-minute walk.
Breakfast and dinner are included in the accommodation fee and prepared daily in our own kitchen.
Fingerprint and smart-card entry, 24/7 cameras and security staff. Separate blocks for male and female students.
A heated, semi-Olympic indoor pool inside the dormitory, available to residents throughout the academic year.
A quiet study hall reserved for coursework, open until late during examination periods.
An infirmary is available on site. Transport to the hospital is arranged by the dormitory when required.
Our buildings are designed to the higher structural class required of student dormitories, approximately 40% above the standard applied to ordinary housing.
The buildings are fitted with an automatic fire sprinkler system, which is a legal requirement for facilities of our bed capacity.
Halogen-free, non-flame-propagating cable is used throughout the power, internet and camera installations.
A generator takes over during power cuts, and a lightning conductor protects the buildings.
The buildings date from 2011 and 2014 and have external cladding with thermal and acoustic insulation.

We operate to a standard that makes no compromises on safety, order and transparency during the time students spend away from their families.
